‘Change’ always comes bearing gifts

When life starts to seem insipid and lacking fun, it’s best to try out some changes. It can be a very small one, seemingly nugatory; but the important thing is that this small change may open a window to rather newer predilections in your life. I was feeling likewise since the last two days. Everything seemed the same. I don’t know whether it was my insomnia getting better of me or having no good serial left to watch or anything else; but I was yearning for something better, something lively. I tried 2 amazing things and trust me it genuinely worked.

First of all, I turned on my chat on Facebook (yeah, I like enjoying my privacy) and talked to a good old friend. I hadn’t been in touch with him lately. Obviously, he was at the office burning his ass out as the release date of his product was quite near. We just had a few lines of chat and then he took my permission to leave. But to my utter surprise, he gave me a call that evening. I was overwhelmed. It felt as if the time had just thawed and the incidents we were laughing upon seemed to have happened yesterday. I came to know about the well being of several other friends, how they are doing well, and many other insane stuffs.

Secondly, I watched some classic age old Hindi movies. Yes, I watched Pyaasa(1957) and Sahib, Biwi aur Ghulam(1962). Uptill now, I had just heard of finesse of Meena Kumari, but after watching her portrayal of grief-stricken “Chhoti Bahu” in Sahib, Biwi aur Ghulam, I was coerced to doff my hat to this “Tragedy Queen”. The insurmountable pain of a sexually unsatisfied and desperately alcoholic wife which she evinced in the song “na jao saiyaan, chhuda ke baiyaan....” was heart-wrenching. Guru Dutt was simply mesmerizing and supremely sublime in both of the movies, especially Pyaasa. After a long time, I watched two genuinely awesome Hindi movies. It was definitely a welcome change after watching a hell lot of English serials and Hollywood movies; watching some genuine piece of emotional drama, ekdum desi style.J

The things I tried were really small, probably childish to some of the people or crazy to many of them; but they did work. The sequence of events triggered by these small changes had a humungous impact on me. It made me jubilant, made me feel alive, and gave me respite from the vegetative state I had been a part of in past few days.

The moral of the story is that, try out something new. If not new, try out something you didn't do for a long time or even better, try out something crazy.J That small thing can be from changing the orientation of your bed to changing your hairstyle; trying out non-veg if you are a veggie (vice-versa is CRIME J); buying some new jeans or t-shirts; changing desktop wallpapers or operating systems; put on your best outfits and go on a walk; or as in my case bringing down your ego level and talk to someone you haven’t talked in a long time. If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it. Life is a bag full of surprises; give it a chance to surprise you. Try small, witness big. J
